T.V. Week In Review: Week 24, 2007

Someone To Watch Over Me

Well, we finally got round to watching the conclusion of Day Six of 24 and we were willing Jack to throw himself off the cliff at the end and put us out of our misery. It’s odd that showing a repeat of Day Five would have been a much cheaper way of making a TV show than creating twenty four new episodes that retread almost the same areas over and over again. However, there’s a movie and two more series to come so I hope that the creators sit down in a quiet room and think really carefully about what they want to do next. Must do better. There were also conclusions (in Fazzinchi Towers, in any case) to much more watchable series of The Apprentice (Katie now completely revealed as a quite unpleasant person and on the receiving end of a marvellous put down from Sir Alan on the sister show, “You’re Fired”), Prison Break (set up for more of the same in Series Three but not sure whether it will keep up the pace) and Gavin and Stacey (and I cannot wait for a DVD and a confirmation of series two). I’ve just posted a review of the genius that was Doctor Who but The Show of the Week has to go Steven Moffatt’s new interpretation on Jeckyl and Hyde in BBC1’s Jeckyl. It wasn’t perfect, but it was brave and enjoyable and full of Steven’s trademark wit. Review to follow.
