Life on Earth

Planet Earth

Watch out… zebra crossing

You can’t help but admire David Attenborough’s latest series, in fact you can’t help but admire all of his series.  Planet Earth is currently being shown on BBC1 on Sunday nights, and the photography is quite simply sensational…. some of the *scenes* alone have taken years to plan and film and the quality is there for all to see.  It is quite simply the ultimate natural history programme.  The only problem is, and I know its wrong of me, but I’m not a big fan of natural history programmes.  The BBC mantra is to “inform, educate and entertain” and this ticks all the boxes, yet scene after beautifully filmed scene I find myself oddly distracted and not entirely involved with the ongoing narrative.  It deserves every award it gets, it deserves to be the ratings smash it undoubtedly will, and it deserves all the overseas sales and DVD units it can ship… just not for me.
