4-5-1

Doncaster Rovers don’t get live games too often.

Carling Cup football is back… not perhaps a footballing highlight for many people in this, a World Cup year. However, it gives the minnows a chance to shine and pull off a shock or two in the early rounds. I have two footballing alliegences, firstly the team of my heart (Tottenham) and secondly the team of my head (Portsmouth). Unfortunately for me, these were the two teams who fell victim to giant-killing antics in last night’s fixtures (congrats through gritted teeth to Grimsby and Gillingham). Hence my reason for tuning in to Doncaster this evening, in the vain hope that Spurs’ defeat gets over-shadowed. Plenty of controversy in the footballing headlines (as ever) at the moment, all about the formation de jour (the 4-5-1), falling attendances, and boring games. Even Mr Mourinho is saying it’s not about entertaining anymore, just results. I think that the cricketing exploits over the summer have spoilt us sports fans and may be it’s time for the Premiership prima donna’s to be knocked down a peg or two.
