England in the Summer

The Oval, 10 Sept, 3pm.

England need just a draw from this match to win the Ashes. England’s first innings closed at 379, in reply Australia are 184-1. This is latest in the summer that an Ashes test has ever been played, and never has the nation on such a scale, collectively wished for the rain that September so often brings. The cricket purist makes me want to see the great game being played to yet another dramatic conclusion in this marvellous summer, rather than watching large, plastic sheets covering the pitch. However, to an England fan, these could now be our best chance to bring the Ashes home.
